Under where? Under there. I just made you say underwear!

So, in my glamorous life, I was buying new underwear for David. Here's what I want to know. Why is one piece of underwear called a pair? Two can be a pair but why one? I don't get it.

Marriage in Real Life

I was hopping around the blogoshpere and came across a few blogs referencing Marriage in Real Life. Basically, you were challenged to write about what marriage is really like. I can't remember or find where I found this, or I would add it's link. Then, on Sunday, in the 'For Better or Worse' sunday cartoon, two of the characters are getting married. I am going to plagarize some of it because I thought it really captured the essence of what I wanted to say. Anyway, here's my take:
Marriage in Real Life
Marriage is a lifetime commitment, one that requires you make that promise over and over and over again. Somedays it's much easier to do than others.
Marriage is a challenge. But too, it is love. Marriage is patience, like when those cute little habits that you fell in love with become the annoying habits of everyday life that seem to magnify with the passing years. With patience, you can deal with it and many times, find the humor in your situation.
Marriage is giving and caring. The giving part is really essential. So many times, you give without knowing what the return will be for you. You have faith in your partner and in your relationship. Sometimes you just keep going because there is no alternative. When you're first married, the caring part comes so naturally. But, as children enter the picture and the years advance, and problems and worldly things enter in, the caring part sometimes becomes hard to remember. Or at the very least, takes second place to the mundane work of everyday life. That's when you need to make that commitment again (and sometimes again, and again and again!).
Marriage is honesty and speaking the truth with a loving heart. It requires openness and being thoughtful of one another.
Marriage is the knowing that your understanding of one another will lead to a greater understanding of yourself. I truly believe that while I would be okay by myself, I am a much greater person with David by my side.
Marriage is friendship. Sometimes, that friendship is what can carry you through some rough times. I am proud to say David is my best friend.
Marriage is respect. I do find this difficult at times. Respecting another person that you live with and know so intimately is hard when the times are rough and it's much easier to strike out against them so that you're not the first or only one being hurt.
Marriage is the willingness to accept your partner's qualities and differences, weak and strong. My favorite quality about David is how he can make me laugh and our differences can make life exciting (boy, can they!).
Marriage is a promise made and a lasting successful caring marriage is a promise kept again and again and again.

Jersey Shore

Vacation was so much fun. Simon got to go crabbing with his cousins. We caught a blowfish too, something I have never seen 'in the wild'. Well, as wild as the Shore gets anyway! We spent lots of time with Julie and her family and were lucky enough to get a professional photographer to get some really nice family shots of everyone. I will be excited to see them. All nine of the grandkids were there and it was great to get everyone looking at the camera, even if not all of them were thrilled about it! We spent lots of time in the mornings at the beach. All of us tried boogie boarding, although Simon was the family pro. I really liked it too, but next time I need a wee bit larger board. (Or maybe I need a wee bit smaller body, either one would work)
One day, while David & Corn were working, Julie & I took the kids to the Boardwalk. We had the biggest pizza I have ever eaten there. No kidding, it took up the entire tabletop of the booth we were sitting in. Carissa & Simon split a piece and neither of them could finish their parts. I couldn't finish my piece either. It was tasty though. After some souvenir buying and game playing, we headed home with some very sleepy children.
Two vacation days, we also played some mini golf. Apparently, my children view it as 'Speed Golf'. Carissa plays more like Hockey Golf where she just keeps moving the ball with her club and if she can't get it in the hole, picks it up and drops it in. "I'm a good golfer, right?!" Simon kept shooting at it more like croquet, which is interesting considering he's never played that before either!
We had a lovely time and are already considering when we can return. Although it won't be next year, we're hoping to go again in 2010. Vacation rocks!!!

Veggies & Fruit Galore

We were trying to go to a garage sale yesterday, but, we got sidetracked by a great Farmer's Market. The kids had a blast, talking to the vendors, eating samples, asking what all the things were. We bought about $10 worth of food, but it was well worth it. Simon is holding our $2 cantaloupe, the biggest one I think I've ever seen! It's quite yummy and almost all gone already. Guess we need to go back there next weekend!

Funkytown

Today, we were listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks CD in the car. Carissa is singing along to Funkytown and you know the part where it says "Talk about it, talk about it, talk about it"? Well, she's singing (very loudly) "Taco Butt, Taco Butt, Taco Butt!" Gotta love the kids version of songs!!

Home Again, Home Again Jiggety Jig

After a very loooong car ride, we are home again. Had a wonderful time at the Shore. The kids had fun every single day and so did David & I. Simon has the makings of a world class boogie boarder, Carissa was a little beach bunny, David-a ferocious wave rider and me a tanned, sandy, happy Mommy! We need to make our vacation a priority every year. It was so nice to reconnect with family and I got such a kick out of watching Simon & Carissa interact with their cousins.
Oh, it's good to be home but vacation was a blast!!

VBS

The kids have VBS this week. So, while they are having their 'Rainforest Adventure', I'm trying to catch up on things before we leave on vacation. But, tell me this, how do 2 absent children and one working husband still manage to mess up the house so much?? I swear, it's the same amount of work whether they're here or gone. Oh well, I know one day I'll be saying 'remember the good ol' days when the kids were small..."

Professional Mommy

Our big task this last weekend was to get a new laptop for me. Fun and frankly, somewhat tedious at the same time. But, here I sit, typing on my new cherry red laptop. Yep, it's quite colorful but it's really quite fun and much faster than our desktop. I'll be playing with it this week and next. Making me feel like a real professional, what a change!!

Lovely Zucchini

What to do with a big ol' zucchini that a neighbor gave me? Grate it up, freeze part and make chocolate zucchini cake, of course! Smells awfully good baking in the oven right now. I suppose I'll be good and use the rest of it in the soup I'm making tomorrow. Just don't tell the kids, they think the zucchini is my secret seasoning mix. Shhh!
