2012 Gooooooooaaaaaalllllssssss!

I have been thinking about resolutions for 2012. I think this year I'm forgoing resolutions for something else...goals. And since we have moved into a new-to-us house, my goals will be revolving around things to be done at home.

In no specific order, here are my 2012 home goals:

Paint the inside of the den windows white. Not sure why the last people didn't do this but it looks funny being two different colors...at least to me.

Paint the tv stand in the den white to match the other woodwork. It's been unpainted since before we were married, I think it's about time for a change. Oh, and I want to drill bigger holes in the back so the wires can be behind it and not stick out the front of it and then wrap around to the back. I like things to look nice and somewhat clean...but that's just me.

Figure out new curtains/drapes for the french doors leading to the deck. The thing you use to pull them across is broken as are quite a few of the slats that are currently there so something needs to be done.

New curtains for the living room. Really, really hate the ones that are there (they're homemade and not attractive) and I especially don't like the pull backs.

Order new furniture for the den and put the old furniture in the basement. (Update: new furniture is ordered, yahoo!)

Finish getting rid of boxes in the basement and arrange furniture down there.

Set up Simon's train table in the basement.

Get sewing room/guest room organized.

Donate one box/month to Goodwill.

Paint Simon's room.

OK, there's lots more to do but I think this will keep me sufficiently busy this year.

The other thing I've done is to pick a word for the year. That's right, a word. Something to keep me focused and help me along the way. This year the word is 'intentional'.  I want to do things with intention and be focused on what's happening. I love to plan ahead and try to be in control and because of that, I sometimes lose track of/don't appreicate what's happening in the right here and now. So...intentional...that's my word and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, and decluttering. That's my other goal. Decluttering physically and mentally.

It's good to have goals....right?!???!

Resolving the 2010 Resolutions

I tried to go back and find my 2010 resolutions. I checked January, Feb and finally in March, there they are. I guess being timely was not the top of my list. But, here they are:

1) Start and finish a 5K (hopefully, that will be the same race)
I did this! My sister, niece and I ran one (unofficially) at our quilt retreat. I didn't run the whole way and next time it will be much better without a big ass breakfast beforehand. (Must admit, I had a few 'oh no, she might blow' scares  but I held it in). Woohoo! I did it!
2) Lose 30 lbs (I'm hopeful for more but we'll see)
Let's just say, Next!
3) Clean the outside windows of the house.
Nope, maybe next year
4) Repaint the trim on the shed.
Nope, not done but I hear the shabby chic looks is still good. Yeah, that's the ticket, it just looks rather shabby chic.
5) Repaint the trim and around the garage door and on the porch (along with the railings of the porch).
Same as #4, shabby chic it is.
6) Plant a garden.
Oh yeah! And I planted pumpkins and zucchini next to the house where we took out the shrubs. Booyah!
7) Shop the farmer's market as often as possible.
As often as I could get there. But I did incorporate a lot more fresh veggies in our diet.
8) Clean the window screens. (I'm noticing that I have a lot of repair/cleaning issues)
Done, but did you know that those buggers still managed to get dirty again? What a pain in the butt, I need self cleaning windows & screens.
9) Plan a fun trip to Chicago with friends (Friends, don't let me down!)
Nope, no Chicago trip, but lots of fun with friends. I'll take it.
10) Have people over to my house more often.
Not so good on this one either but I was more social in general this year. Even when I didn't always feel like it.

Well, my average was only about 50%. Probably would have helped if I remembered the list before Jan 3, 2011. But, it is what it is. And I still like me. Just not that stupid list so much.

2010 Resolutions

I said I wouldn't but I couldn't help myself. I actually did accomplish quite a few of my resolutions from last year so what the heck, here are mine for 2010:
1) Start and finish a 5K (hopefully, that will be the same race)
2) Lose 30 lbs (I'm hopeful for more but we'll see)
3) Clean the outside windows of the house.
4) Repaint the trim on the shed.
5) Repaint the trim around the garage door and on the porch (along with the railings of the porch).
6) Plant a garden.
7) Shop the farmer's market as often as possible.
8) Clean the window screens. (I'm noticing that I have a lot of repair/cleaning issues)
9) Plan a fun trip to Chicago with friends (Friends, don't let me down!)
10) Have people over to my house more often.
OK, that's enough. I'll check back in at the end of year to see how things went. Here's to the rest of 2010!

2009 Resolutions

It's time for reflection. It's time for contemplation. It's time to revisit those 2009 resolutions and see how I did:
1)Plant a garden
I did plant one garden with two tomato plants that produced quite well, one zucchini that outdid itself, 2 eggplants which were promptly eaten by rabbits, and two pepper plants which did okay. Mostly, my zucchini and weeds did really really well.
2)Lose 30 lbs this year
Ahem, well what do they say about good intentions? The road to he** and all that. I'm down from where I started last year, but not 30 lbs worth.
3)Use Breadmaker all year long
Did quite well with this one. Used the breadmaker almost all year and tried a few new recipes. Found one I liked so this resolution is a success.
4)Make more meals at home
Depending on the week, this was hit or miss. I think I made more overall but could definitely do better.
5)Organize closets
I did everyone's closet but my own. And, until Hubster decides to do that with me, it's not happening.
6)Repaint bathroom, den and downstairs bath ceiling.
Finished the bathroom but no progress on the den and ceiling. There's always next year.

Not perfect, but progress. As the Nester would say, "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful". That's my life, beautiful!

New Year's Resolution

It's that time of year, time for some new resolutions. I am putting them down in writing so that I will
(1) be able to find them again
(2) be more accountable
(3) because I need a blog topic
So, here goes:
Anne's 2009 Resolutions
1) plant a garden this year
2) lose 30 lbs this year
3) use the breadmaker all year long
4) make more meals at home
5) organize my closets
6) repaint the bathroom, den and finish the downstairs bath ceiling

That's enough for now. Wonder what I'll be saying about this list next year??
