I'm Melting......

Can I just say Holy Crap! It was hot out yesterday!!! After sitting out during Princess swim lesson, I felt like I left about 10 pounds of sweat by the pool (unfortunately the scale did not show that). I went home, drank some diet coke and a lot of water and finally felt better. I even jumped in the blow up pool with Princess in the morning, that felt goooooood. (You didn't seriously think I'd be posting pictures of THAT now, did you?!)

How the heck can we have 55 degree weather one day and less than a week later, it's so frigging hot out that you want to strip down to your undies,have a great big icey cold beer, er, I mean, lemonade, and sit in front of the air conditioner and fan all day? Not that that EVER happens here ;)

But, allegedly, relief is coming. I like living where I do but this crazy weather is something else.

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie

I like our new dog. So does the Hubster, Princess and Wolfgang. However, she does not like her kennel. And, because she has left us special presents two days in a row when I went to pick up Wolfgang from Camp Invention, she darned well better learn to like it. Poor Wolfgang, both times it's been in his room. He was lamenting "WHY do you only do that in MY room?!!" Princess just looked at him and said "Guess tomorrow you better shut your door." She's a helpful one, isn't she? Sometimes, I really understand why he wishes he was an only child.

Jail vs. Time Out

Today, Wolfgang asked me "Is jail just like a really looong time out?"
It is indeed.

Dog Days of Summer

We're on the countdown. Allegedly, we are getting a dog today. After many, many years of pleading, begging, nagging, whatever, by Hubster and the children, we are supposed to be getting a dog today. They wore me down, folks, that's all there is to it.

The dog is coming to us through our next door neighbor. Her neice had the dog but is no longer able to care for it due to some life circumstance changes. Her kids love the dog though so I'm still not 100% convinced this is going through. I'll post more if there's an update later.

UPDATE: We finally got the dog at around 7:30 tonight. The kids were over the top excited and Maggie (who is a Westie-Poodle mix) seems to like our house. She's a real sweetheart. So, without further ado, meet Maggie:

Curiosity Killed the Platypus

I love that I have curious children. But, it is an unusual way to start the day when one of the first things you do is look up "platypus" on Google. Why? Because they had questions about them. Because of the show Phineas and Ferb on Disney. Because I let them watch their allotted 1 1/2 hours of tv throughout the day yesterday. Because that's the kind of mom I am. Because, wait, why did I do this?! Well, at least we got something educational from Disney.
Now we're off to learn more about duck billed platypuseseses (apparently to include how to make them plural 'cause I really don't think this is correct). Did you know that they are a mammal who lays eggs? Yeah, before today, me neither. Let the Summer Learning commence.
p.s. They're weird looking and ugly. Just sayin.

Perusing the Web

In my quest to find more and varied recipes online, I ran across this website: www.recipesofacheapskate.blogspot.com. There's some tasty ones on there, but I make no claims as to how healthy they are. I must say the author sure does like her cheese though.

In other food related news, I have found that I really pared down my cookbooks. Why? Because I found that I did a lot of searching online. My other favorite recipe blogs are these:
